Within my traveller’s circle, I am surrounded by such adventurous souls. My dear friend Lindsay has lived around the world. Tony has dived underwater with great white sharks. Dent has kayaked in Antarctica. And I don’t think that there is a place on earth that Stacey has not travelled to.

While I don’t come close to stacking up, I do have a few uber cool experiences under my belt:

11. Watching a bian lian (mask changing) opera performance (Emei Shan, China)

Part of the Sichuan opera genre, the bian lian or mask changing opera is an ancient form of performance art where masks are changed instantaneously throughout the performance. It is absolutely incredible. I was lucky enough to come across this show on Emei Shan in China. It was one of the coolest performances I have ever seen.

10. Dining in complete darkness at O’Noir restaurant (Montreal, Canada)

I first heard about restaurants where you dine in complete darkness from a blog post, and have since discovered that most people I know would not consider even having one meal in the dark. The reason they gave me is simple, they need to see their food. While I completely respect the hesitation, they are missing out. Dining in complete darkness can be un-nerving at first, since we rely so heavily on our sight. But the experience also heightens our other senses such as taste, touch and smell, making the meal exceptionally unique and uber cool, especially when you order the surprise and especially when you share the experience with dear friends you have known for over 20 years.
